Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is an umbrella-term for a number of evidence-based, practical and goal-driven interventions. CBT believes that what we think, how we behave, and how other people make us feel are all closely related โ€“ and they all affect our wellbeing. Thus, CBT targets unhelpful ways of thinking and learned patterns of unhelpful behavior, where clients are encouraged to learn better ways of coping with their problems, thereby relieving distressing symptoms and becoming more effective and present in their lives.

Types of CBT offered include Trauma-Focused CBT, Behavioural Activation, Rumination Focused CBT, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and disorder specific approaches to anxiety disorders.

My work also includes third-wave approaches, where I prioritize acceptance, mindfulness and values-based living. These include: Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Compassion-Focused Psychotherapy (CFT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).

Research has shown that CBT can help with a lot of mental health difficulties, including:
